As you know, getting materity health insurance is difficult, particularly if you're already pregnant. Fortunately, there are options available.
Here are some programs providing low cost maternity insurance in California that can help you get adequate coverage during your pregnancy and beyond.
Access for Infants and Families
If you are pregnant and do not have any health insurance, AIM covers all your medical services requirements from your effective date of coverage until 60 days after your pregnancy has ended.
AIM services includes: pre-natal care, preventive care, physician visits, inpatient delivery, hospital services, diagnostic x-ray and lab tests, and other services.
AIM provides low cost maternity insurance in California. It does not charge co-payments or monthly deductibles. You only pay an amount equivalent to 1.5% of your adjusted annual income after deductions.
You can opt to pay this amount in full upon enrollment or you can choose to make monthly payments for 12 months. This 1.5% is all you have to pay throughout your coverage period - from enrollment up to 60 days after pregnancy.
To qualify for AIM, you should not have any maternity insurance, either private or through Medi-Cal or Medicare, you must be a resident of California for at least 6 months, not more than 30 weeks pregnant and must have a monthly household income that is within AIM guidelines.
AIM definitely offers an excellent maternity insurance option, than not having any coverage at all.

Healthy Families
The Healthy Families Program provides low cost health, dental and vision services for children and teens from low wage families. Families participating in the program choose their health, dental and vision plan.
Health Families services include: physician services, preventive care, prescription drugs, hospital and emergency services, skilled nursing care, maternity (nursery care), and others.
Families pay premiums of $4-$15 per child per month (maximum of $45 per family) to participate in the program. The State and Federal government provide funding to the HFP.
MRMIP provides a 36 month health insurance for Californians who are unable to obtain coverage in the individual health insurance market. Services are delivered through participating health insurance providers. Participants in MRMIP pay monthly premiums.
