Arizona State Health Insurance Pograms for Families

Through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the state of Arizona offers a number of low cost or free health care coverage programs to families and children. To qualify, individuals must be US citizens or qualified immigrants and must meet income limits.

These programs are:

AHCCCS Care - The AHCCCS Care program provides medical coverage, such as doctor's office visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, lab work, and behavioral health services.

Kids Care - KidsCare (Arizona's State Children's Health Insurance Program) provides medical coverage for children who have had no health insurance for the last three months.

Arizona Families and Children - AHCCCS for Families with Children (AFC) provides medical coverage, such as doctor's office visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, lab work, and behavioral health services to families. To qualify, there must be a child in the household under the age of 18 years (or 19 years if a full-time student).

Medical Expense Deductions (MED) - provides medical coverage for individuals who do not qualify for other AHCCCS programs because their income is too high.

However, they may be eligible for MED if they have medical expenses in the month of application (or the previous month) that reduce their monthly income to 40% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

SOBRA for Children - SOBRA provides medical coverage to pregnant women and children up to the age of 19 years.
